On November 24, 2024 our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully at Selkirk Regional Health Centre surrounded by family at the age of 83.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Sharon and his daughters: Kristin (Chris), Natalie (Kevin), Sherri (Russ) and cherished grandchildren Taylor (Will), Brooke & Reid.

Also mourning Denny’s loss are his brother Ken (Linda), five sisters Ellen, Joyce (Colin), Carol (Clayton), Jackie (Ron) and Jeannette (Doug), sisters-in-law Carol and Judy as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Denny was predeceased by his parents, Jacques & Mabel Hunter, infant grandson Cole and his brothers Carmen and Ron, brother-in-law Jack and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law on the Baisley side, along with many dear friends.

Denny and Sharon were married on June 23,1962 in Carman, MB where they began their life together and expanded their family with the addition of their daughters, Kristin, Natalie, and Sherri.

Throughout the years, Denny enjoyed many summers camping with family and friends where many special memories were made.

Denny was born on April 25,1941 in Carman, MB where he gained his passion for sports rather than school.

Sports have always been a vital aspect of Denny's life, particularly his enthusiasm and competitive spirit for hockey. He often reminisced on his time playing forward with the Carman Beavers, where he started playing for them in 1963 during their inaugural season. That year, the Beavers triumphed in the SEMHL and claimed the Manitoba Pool Elevators trophy, with Denny being acknowledged as one of the league's top ten-point scorers. He continued to play for the Beavers until 1967.

In the Spring and Summer seasons, Denny participated in baseball with several teams across Manitoba, including the Carman Cubs, Binscarth Orioles, and Neepawa Cubs. This experience fostered a lasting admiration for the Chicago Cubs, culminating in his excitement when the team won the World Series Championship in 2016. Additionally, he was honored with induction into the baseball hall of fame in Morden as a member of the Binscarth Orioles.

He subsequently exchanged his hockey stick for golf clubs and was an active member at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club for more than three decades.

Dennis took great pride in his role as a grandfather, frequently attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He enjoyed watching numerous ringette and hockey games, after which he would provide his insights and "postgame analysis." He cherished the opportunity to hear about significant moments in his grandchildren's lives.

Denny demonstrated a strong work ethic at an early age, managing several roles including a mink ranch employee, a school bus driver, a farm laborer, and an oil tank wagon salesperson, prior to his employment at Manitoba Pool Elevator (MPE).

He dedicated 31 years to MPE, advancing through varies roles starting as an Elevator Manager Assistant to General Manager of Operations before retiring in 1998. Throughout his many roles within MPE, he particularly enjoyed his time as Terminal Manager in Thunder Bay, ON.  He often spoke of the dedicated team that continually made him “look good”, while developing lifelong friendships.

Denny's career path led them throughout Manitoba, where they lived in various locations including Cardale, Chillon, Brookdale, Harte, and Winnipeg, before finally establishing their roots in Selkirk in 1975.

Having the opportunity to work various roles during his time at MPE gave him a strong understanding of the Grain Industry and was recognized as a respected leader.

Throughout his life, he traveled extensively for both work and leisure to Asia, United Kingdom, Germany, Hawaii, Arizona, Florida, Mexico, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, San Antonio, Indianapolis, New Orleans, and Nashville.

He confronted each health challenge with unwavering determination, resilience, and a positive outlook until his last day surrounded by his family. We aspire to embody these remarkable qualities as we navigate our own lives.

Denny would be the first to tell you that he had a great life and that everything was “perfect”.

We hope you are now at peace, and everything is “Just perfect”. It is now time for us to carry on your legacy. Rest easy.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Denny’s Life will be held at a later date.
