DIRK (DICK) CORNELIS BAKER
February 19,1936 – March 14,2025
It is with great sadness that our family announces Dick’s passing at the age 89.
Dick was born in Blaricum, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1957. He was a carpenter by trade and spent his early years working for the Great West Development Company.
Dick and his wife Lenore loved spending their summers with family and friends in Petersfield. Following Dick’s retirement, they made Petersfield their permanent home.
Dick loved waterskiing and took the time to teach anyone how to ski. He would spend hours every weekend making sure that everyone had a chance to ski around the bay. He was passionate about sports and often woke up early for a good European soccer match. He followed the Jets since their 1972 WHA inception and was a diehard fan. Even in the hospital, Dick watched every game and enjoyed a good post-game analysis.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years, Lenore, his children Dirk (Kori), Melody (Greg), Peter (Cynthia), Charlotta (Howard), Philip (Sarah), his siblings Kees, Hilde and Henk, and grandchildren Justin, Colin, Grace, Gabriel, Thea and Ada.
We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the care provided by Interlake Home Care and the Selkirk Hospital.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The Interment of Ashes will be at 9:00 a.m. at St. James Cemetery, 525 Tylehurst St, Winnipeg, MB. The Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. George Wakefield Anglican Church, 8716 Highway # 9 between Clandeboye and Petersfield. Lunch and fellowship will follow in St. George Wakefield parish hall..
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Dick’s memory.
