Dixie Oliver Obituary

Dixie B. Oliver

After a short illness, Dixie B. Oliver passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre. Born to Leuisa and Claude Grant on August 30th, 1929, in Winnipeg, she was a beacon of light and warmth in the community she loved.

Dixie was a cherished member of the Oliver/Grant family and was predeceased by her parents and husband Sid. Dixie’s memory will be forever kept alive by her son Larry, daughter Lucinda (Cindi), son-in-law Don Lajoie and grandchildren Chris Oliver (Emily) and Sara Judd (David).

Dixie grew up, got married and worked in Northern Ontario and Manitoba. After settling in Selkirk, Dixie became a member of the Selkirk United Church and spent many years volunteering with CGIT, taught Sunday School and spent many hours assisting at church events. Dixie also spent many years volunteering at the Betel personal care home and was recognized as volunteer of the month on numerous occasions. Dixie was always there when she was called upon for help.

After losing her husband early in life, Dixie took on new challenges and adventures. She travelled as often as she could going on trips, with her “girl friends” from coast to coast in Canada and down in the United States. Dixie always had fond memories of her trips and how happy she was travelling with her friends and granddaughter. Dixie had many hobbies she enjoyed like knitting, sewing, reading books and baking and decorating cakes for weddings and special occasions.

Dixie was a very independent woman to the end. Dixie left an everlasting impression of a loving and caring person to all who met her.  Dixie will be missed by all who knew her.

A private family grave side burial shall take place at a later date.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Dixie’s name can do so with the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
