Dolores Anne Simpson
Dolores Anne Simpson, 76, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 19, 2025, at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre in palliative care after a year-long battle with ovarian cancer.
Born on March 22, 1949, Dolores lived a vibrant and active life from beginning to end. She was never one to sit still — a swimmer, cyclist, rollerblader, and lifelong curler. She competed in the Special Olympics and proudly took home awards that celebrated her determination and spirit.
Dolores had a deep love for polka music and dancing, and she filled every room with energy and laughter. She was bold, loud, and funny — a true original who lived life on her own terms.
She was also a die-hard sports fan, passionate about the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. She cheered loud and proud, whether at home or in the stands — knowing every stat, every score, and never missing a game. Game days were sacred, and her running commentary was part of the show.
Equally devoted to her love of horror movies, Dolores was a lifelong fan of the genre. From classic slashers to ghost stories, she was always chasing a good scare and laughing louder than anyone at the gory bits. Her love of the spooky and suspenseful was one of her quirks we all adored.
Dolores is survived by her siblings, Linda Simpson (Patty), Bruce Dahl (Joanne), Judy Shirlaw (Tina), Sandy Wiesner, David Wiesner, and Shirley Morrision, Bill Halgason (Loraine) She also leaves behind nieces and nephews who loved her deeply: Sarah, Serena, Patrick, Brad, Karen, Cheryl, Michael, and great-nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to CancerCare Selkirk and CancerCare Manitoba for their exceptional care and support.
Dolores was a lifelong animal lover, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society — a cause close to her heart.
As per her wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no formal memorial service. The family will be holding private gatherings in her honour.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her humour, her heart, and the unstoppable joy she brought into the world.
