Donald Hendry Obituary

Donald Hendry

October 28, 1958 - November 23, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden, peaceful passing of Donald Hendry on November 23, 2022.

He was predeceased by his mother Sylvia and father Donald. Don leaves behind his children, Desmond and Courtney who had a special place in his heart; grandchildren, Lenae, Grace, Legacy and Beckham, his siblings Deb, Karen (Glen) Wanda and Wayne (Norene) as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Don was born in Selkirk, Manitoba. Growing up in the north end of Selkirk where every family house had five kids or more, making friendships that lasted a lifetime.

He had many interests in his younger days which included comic collecting and a deep love of music which stayed with him forever. He loved the music and poetic lyrics of greats like Neil Young, David Bowie and his all-time favourite Bob Dylan. He loved fishing, a salmon fishing trip he took to Campbell River BC with Wanda to visit his friend Arthur Monkman was a special memory for him. Cheering on his Winnipeg Jets & Bombers was also a favourite pastime.

He had a caring soul with a love for animals and would be relieved to know his cat Angel will be in a loving home. He became a very accomplished cook in his later years cooking meals for his sisters, amassing a hand-written collection of tried and true recipes. One of his favourite things to do was running the BBQ at summer parties with family and friends.

Don always enjoyed working with his hands, working early on as a mechanic in Selkirk. He worked at Freshwater Fisheries for a time and moved into the construction trade most recently working at PCL Construction up until his passing. He was especially proud of the machinist training he completed in 2017. Rest peacefully Don, you will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16 at 1:00 pm in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, MB. All are welcome to attend to honour his memory.

Honourary pallbearers, Ron McCrae, Malcolm Thomas, Arthur Monkman and Stanley Kipling.
