It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Donald Francis Johnston. He passed peacefully on November 11, 2022, holding his daughters' hands. He leaves behind his children Donald (Serina), Julia (Bryan), and Matthew. His grandchildren Justin (Alex), Derrick (Brook), Vandon, Gwendilynn, Bennett, and great-grandchildren Pipper, and Quinn. Don's siblings; Darlene (Larry), Carol (David), Dorothy, and Robert. His beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother Dale.

Don was born on October 2, 1953, in Portage La Prairie. His love of life was always his horses, dogs, and cars. Don owned Sunshine Riding Academy and J&J Firewood, where lots of memories and friends were made. He was always looking for a new venture. Don turned part of the barn into a garage for fixing and painting cars. His love of racehorses eventually led him back to The Assiniboia Downs. We are grateful he passed his knowledge, and love of animals onto us. He taught us to give selflessly, to have a wildly inappropriate sense of humor, to love our friends and family unconditionally, and the importance of forgiveness.

Don's pride and joy were all his grandchildren and of course his beloved dog JAKE. Don had a golden heart and was larger than life. He will be greatly missed and loved until the end of time.

The family would like to thank Selkirk Hospital staff and Gilbart Funeral Chapel for showing such compassion and navigating us through this difficult time.

His celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 24th, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB.
