Donald Keller Obituary

Donald (Don) passed away peacefully with his family by his side.

Don is predeceased by his wife Maria, parents Martin and Lena Keller, siblings Lillian, Florence, Josephine, Jane, Margaret, Ed, Art and Jack.

Don is survived by, and will be deeply missed, by his children Chuck (Maurice), Mark (Vicki), Janice (Kelly) and Judy (Chris). Afi will be deeply missed by his 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Don is also survived by his sisters Mary and Betty and many nieces and nephews.

Don was born in Fannystelle Manitoba on October 18, 1932.  His father was a section manager for CP railroad and as the family moved around a lot they settled in Arborg Manitoba. Don met Maria Thorsteinson and they married on May 1st 1954 and lived in Winnipeg, as he worked as a porter for CP passenger train. Don got a job at Campbell Red Lake gold mine so they moved to Red Lake with their son Chuck in August 1955 and he started work at Campbell on September 1st.  They made their home in Balmertown where Mark, Janice and Judy were born and raised.

Don and Maria eventually moved to Red Lake and bought a home on the lake which was a home they both loved and had a lot of great times there with family and friends.  He retired from Campbell Red Lake mine after 35 years and they decided to move back to Manitoba. In 2000 they bought a home in Winnipeg Beach.  There you would find him puttering in his garage, in his garden, or even doing yardwork to keep his yard immaculate.  He also loved doing his jigsaw puzzles, and also took up the hobby of wine making.  Don and Maria spent many wonderful years in the home in Winnipeg Beach with family and friends visiting often.

In 2014 Don and Maria sold their home in Winnipeg Beach and moved into an apartment in Selkirk because of health.  Even though Dad was not fond of apartment living at first he eventually liked it.   They loved doing day trips to Winnipeg shopping, visiting family and friends, and he even kept up with his love of puzzles.

Don was a hardworking, quiet man, who had a deep Catholic faith.  He also had a great talent to fix everything and anything, he was a“Jack of all Trades”.

The family would like to thank Dr. Martin at the Grace Hospital for his kindness and care.
