It is with heart-breaking sadness, the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Donann Kent aged 38 years on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Health Sciences Centre. Donann left Mother Earth surrounded by the love of her mother Glenda, brothers Evan and Wesley and partner Steve; along with the many expressions of love texted in by family members and read to her.

 

Donann will be forever loved and missed by her partner Steve and dearly loved son Gaboh; mother Glenda Smith; sisters Tina, Dana, Gaza; brothers Derrick, Evan, Wesley, Michael, Ginew, Kishikaw; and nieces and nephews who she loved very much - Sevey, Kiana, Nakoda, Washtay, Pinasie; Kylin, Keegan, Ryleigh and Jayce; and her grandmother Mina Smith. Her memory will be cherished and remembered by her aunts and uncles; many cousins; relatives and friends.

                                                                                                                                                                                                 

Donann will be greeted and loving embraced into the spirit world by her father Ralph Kent; grandfather Lawrence (Happy) Smith; grandparents Gladys and John Kent; uncle Raymond (Satch) Smith and niece Gabrielle, along with many relatives who passed before her.

 

Over the years, Donann attended many spiritual ceremonies, pow-wows where she participated as a fancy shawl dancer and attending sun dances. Together, Donann and her sister Tina shared a passion for sewing and made many articles of clothing, ribbon skirts and shirts and outfits and also she was a talented craft person. She loved cutting and braiding hair and her family and friends will remember her talent; she loved to cook and served many delicious meals and feasts for both family and ceremony gatherings.

 

Traditional wake service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 starting at 3:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m.; traditional funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022.  Both services will be held at the PTCM Hall located on Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, Scanterbury, Manitoba.

 

Pallbearers will be her brothers Derrick, Evan, Wesley, Michael, Ginew and Kishikaw. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank the HSC emergency medical staff for all their effort to try and keep Donann with us. Your compassion and care will be remembered.

 

Due to Covid restrictions – provincial health protocols will be in place for the wake and the funeral.  Wake will be for non-immediate family and friends to say their goodbyes with a limit of 10 people at a time.  Funeral services will be limited to 25 immediate family members.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the family’s residence.
