On September 12, 2025, Dorothy Irene Thompson passed peacefully in her 99th year. Born in Snowflake, Manitoba, in 1926, Dorothy was the oldest of four children to Lillian and Alfred Adams and lived on the family farm until she moved to Winnipeg for her nursing education. She graduated in nursing from St. Boniface Hospital and nursed until she left to raise her family, returning to nursing later in life at the Selkirk General Hospital. Dorothy married Dr. Lloyd Thompson in 1949 and settled in Selkirk in 1962, where she resided until her death. She will be remembered by her family members, many nieces and nephews, nursing colleagues and friends, as well as her acquaintances at Wanasing Beach, where she spent decades of beautiful summers.
Dorothy was predeceased by Lloyd (2000) and son Richard (1953), as well as her sisters Hazel Keyes (Brian) and Joyce Keyes (Leonard) and brother Bob Adams (Bernice). She leaves behind daughters Layne Kee of Nanoose Bay, Wynne Young (Tom) of Regina, Tracy Thompson and sons Dr. Tom Thompson of Winnipeg and Dan Thompson (Lynne Scott) of Kamloops. She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Chris Young (Michelle Kelln) of London, Ontario and Suzanne Young (Matt Léonard) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, along with her great-grandchildren Félix and Charlotte Léonard.
A family service will take place at a later date.
