Edward “Ed” Joseph Couture
April 14th, 1930 – April 28th, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward (Ed) Couture, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday Evening at the Selkirk Betel Home at the age of 96.
Ed was born near Selkirk, Manitoba, on April 14th, 1930, to mother Elizabeth and father George. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, papa, uncle, and friend and will always be remembered.
He is lovingly remembered by his children Bob (Janet), Michele (Ron), and Terry; and his siblings George and Joan, his grandchildren Rob (Sarah), Wesley, Kyle, Nicole (Justin), Corey and Kristin. Also, his great-grandchildren, Emma, Chelsea, Jaxon, and Brady. Ed was predeceased by his loving wife Irene earlier this year, his parents George and Elizabeth, his brother Bob and sister Eleanor, his daughter Jo-Anne, and his friend Joe Harcus.
Ed proudly served in the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry and later worked at the Selkirk Mental Hospital as a Porter. He spent much of his life dedicated to his family farm in Selkirk, where his strong work ethic and steady presence were constants.
A man of few words, Ed was nevertheless well known throughout the community. He had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything, from cars to tractors, and took great pride in restoring antique vehicles, including his cherished Model A and Model T. He also enjoyed sharing stories about his family and their unique history.
In the summer months, Ed found joy at his seasonal campsite in Selkirk Park, where family barbecues brought everyone together. He could often be seen riding through the park on his red bicycle, a familiar sight.
Ed will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Selkirk Betel Home for the compassionate and exceptional care they provided to Ed and Irene in their final two years of life.
There will be a private family service for both Ed and Irene.
