Edward (Eddy) Demkey Obituary

Edward (Eddy) Robert Demkey

It is with heavy hearts, we sadly announce the passing of our dear brother Eddy, aged 73 years, on November 11, 2018 at his residence.

Eddy was predeceased by his father Herman; mother Alvina; brothers Raymond and Randy; sister Alvina (Sis); sisters-in-law Norma, Eleanore and Angie.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his siblings Gordon, Freddy, Florence (Wolfgang), sister-in-law Betty, Leonard (Pat), Butch (Linda), brother-in-law Harvey, Tina (Leo), Ernie, Liz (Roy), George (Colleen) and Arthur (Norma); three generations of nieces and nephews; his very good friends Miranda and Casey, and many other wonderful friends.

Eddy was born in St. Boniface on June 11, 1945 and the family moved a few times before he settled himself into Winnipeg. He lived there until 1980 when he bought his home in Winnipeg Beach. He loved working in his yard and took pride in all that he did. After his retirement, you could find him cruising around looking for yard sales and bargains with his little buddy Casey.

Eddy loved his family and loved hearing stories about all of his nieces and nephews and what they are up to. He loved collecting cars, both large and small. He loved to tinker on them a lot and liked to show them off to his visitors. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need and was very giving to the homeless in Winnipeg and around the Interlake. The wildlife that lived around him also found that he was a kind man who cared for their well-being. He always made sure they had something to eat any day of the year. His freezer was stocked full with scraps of meat and vegetables for the animals.

The family would like to thank the paramedics, RCMP and Gilbart Funeral Home.

As per Eddy’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and an interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. on November 24, 2018 at the St. Clement’s Churchyard 1178 River Rd. followed by a come and go Celebration of Life from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Reception Centre 309 Eveline St. Selkirk (additional parking at rear of building) with Rev. Anthon Bouw officiating.

Condolences, pictures and videos may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
