Obituary

In Loving Memory of Edward John Isfeld

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward “Eddy” Isfeld who left us peacefully on Monday, July 28th with his son by his side. He was 86 years old.
Eddy was a man of quiet strength and deep devotion — to his family, his work, and his community. A proud and loving husband to Heather, cherished father to Kathy (Dave) and Kristjan (Krystal), and adoring grandfather to Athan, Keelan, Erik and Elin. He was the foundation and heart of his family.
Eddy and Heather shared a love that was as enduring as it was deep — a partnership built on mutual respect, quiet laughter, and unwavering devotion over their 65 years of marriage. From the early days of young love to the comfort of growing old together, they weathered life’s storms side by side, hand in hand. Heather was Eddy’s greatest cheerleader, and he, her steady anchor. Theirs was a marriage rooted in trust, nurtured by friendship, and made beautiful by a lifetime of shared memories.
Born into a long line of hardworking men, Eddy followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, embracing the life of a commercial fisherman. Eddy felt a great sense of pride when his son Kris chose to join him in the family’s commercial fishing business, marking the 4th generation to carry on the tradition. Working side by side, Ed and Kris formed a truly special bond that went far beyond that of father and son. Rare and special is the sense of partnership they shared, unique to commercial fishers, as they toiled tirelessly and efficiently, locked in shared purpose, and committed to each others success, safety, and mutual return to life’s calm harbours.

Eddy passionately served for many years as a board member of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Board, and was a vocal advocate for the local fishermen. The lake taught him strength, resilience, patience, and humility — traits he carried with him in every aspect of his life.
Eddy trained as an electrician, dedicating years to his craft with skill and integrity. During his tenure as an electrician at Seagram's, he took on the role of union president to continue his drive to advocate for others. He eventually formed his own company, Viking Electric. Eddy met each task with unwavering resolve and an honest day’s work.
One of Eddy's proudest roles was that of coach — not just on the ice or at the baseball diamond, but in life. As a youth hockey and baseball coach, he spent countless hours mentoring young athletes, teaching them not just the fundamentals of the game, but the value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. His calm presence on the bench and his encouraging words in the dressing room left a lasting impact on generations of players.

Eddy's greatest role in life however was not one of occupation or of community. It was his role as a “family man”. His strongest devotion, and greatest moments were those of being the best husband, father, provider, supporter, confidant, and advisor. He took most pride in his family, and excelled at being our most committed ally and our greatest strength.
Eddy's legacy lives on in the stories told at family gatherings, the sound of laughter in the backyard, and the steady hands of his children and grandchildren who learned from his example. He taught us how to fix what’s broken, fish with patience, win with grace, and love without condition.
He will be missed more than words can express, but his spirit — steadfast, kind, and quietly heroic — will live on in all who knew and loved him.
A private family celebration of Eddy’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. A heartfelt thank you to the caring staff members of Gimli Hospital who went above and beyond in caring for Eddy.

Fair winds, full nets, and calm seas, Eddy. We’ll carry your light with us, always.
Góða nótt elskan.
