Edward (Ted) Geard
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ted Geard on the morning of July 12, 2025 at the age of 92 at the Red River Place Personal Care Home, Selkirk, MB.
He is survived by his sister Edith Mae; children Brian (Sheri), Gail (Neil) and Susan; his grandchildren Nola (Devon), Grant (Katrina) and their mother Elaine, Shaylene (Evan) and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn; his parents Harry and Nellie; siblings Pat (Les), Charlie (Marie) and brother-in-law Ed (Zibber).
Ted, also known as Pickle to many, was born and raised in Selkirk. He worked many jobs starting at Coca-Cola, Brown’s Bread, Benson’s Meats and lastly the ANAF 151 until his retirement at the age of 70.
After retirement he volunteered for many years as a driver for CancerCare and Senior Services where many clients requested him to be their driver.
Throughout his life he was heavily involved in sports, both as a participant and as a coach. He passed this love of sports onto his children and grandchildren. He played baseball with the Frontiersmen and coached the MRM Steeler’s hockey team. He was an avid swimmer and was an instructor/lifeguard at the Selkirk Park Pool and at both the Sherbrook and Centennial Pools in Winnipeg.
His pride and joy was coaching his senior fastball ladies team The Selkirk Twilights, taking them to many tournaments and their annual trip to Regina.
Ted and Evelyn enjoyed living at the Knights Centre where they made many lifelong friends. While there he was president of the Tennant’s Association and called bingo on a regular basis.
The family would like to thank the staff at RRP for their care and comfort during his stay there.
Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date.
Dad/Grandpa you will be forever loved and deeply missed.
