Eileen Louise Barker
July 6, 1949 – July 13, 2026

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Eileen Louise Barker on July 13, 2026, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.

Eileen will be lovingly remembered by her brother, John Barker, and his wife, Deirdre; their son, Ryan, and his wife, Ashley; and her great-nephew, Gavin. She is also survived by her sister, Kathryn Wisse, and her husband, Craig, and their children, Brett and Erika. She leaves behind her dear friend, Laura Davies, as well as the many friends she made through the Wellness Institute. Eileen also leaves a legacy of friendship built over a career of more than 30 years as a civilian member of the RCMP and more than three decades in the Winnipeg home she cherished.

She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Frances Barker; her brother, Arthur Barker; and her very special and cherished friend, Pete Smith.

Born in Brandon, Manitoba, on July 6, 1949, Eileen moved with her family to Gimli before her first birthday, where she was raised as the eldest of four children. Independent from an early age, she was eager to begin her own path. After completing one year of teacher training, she taught Grade 2 in Arborg, Manitoba. The lasting impact she had as a teacher is reflected in the fact that she remained friends with one of her students throughout her life.  Ready for a new challenge, Eileen completed a certificate at Herzing Career College and began working for MTS. She soon joined the RCMP as a civilian member, where she enjoyed a rewarding career spanning more than 30 years before retiring.

Eileen will be remembered for her quiet generosity, unwavering independence, and thoughtful nature. She had a gentle sense of humour, valued lifelong friendships, and found happiness not in the spotlight, but in the simple pleasures of caring for others through her time, talents, and kindness.

Eileen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and a talented needleworker whose beautiful creations became treasured gifts for family and friends. Each Christmas, many looked forward to receiving one of her famous vinartertas, lovingly baked and generously shared. She also had a deep love for animals and dearly missed her beloved cat, Rowdy, and her dogs, Odin and Bella, after they crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

In keeping with Eileen’s wishes, there will be no formal service. She will be interred at Gimli Community Cemetery at a future date alongside her family.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Eileen’s memory are invited to make a donation to the charity of their choice. She quietly supported many worthy causes throughout her life and would be pleased to be remembered through an act of generosity.
