Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Rowbotham

Peacefully, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Selkirk Transitional Care Unit, Elizabeth (Betty) Rowbotham, aged 79 years, of Lockport, MB, passed away.

Betty is survived by and leaves to mourn her husband of 56 years, Edward Bachewich, her son Ray Bachewich (Liam & Sarah), her sister Barb (Dave) , Tina & Jaden Shumilak, son- in-law Nick Iskerski (Penny) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Betty is predeceased by her parents, Alfred & Mary Rowbotham, her sister Beverly and her daughter Julie Bachewich.

Betty was born May 13, 1946, in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, and raised on the farm in Hazlet, Saskatchewan. She took great pride in her early years on the farm and would tell her children stories of times with her sisters and parents. Betty attended teachers’ college and worked in many places in Manitoba and Saskatchewan including Puckatawagon and Cumberland House. Mom and Dad eventually moved back to Winnipeg and started a family in 1974 with the addition of Raymond. They eventually purchased an acreage in St. Andrews when their daughter Julie was born in 1980. Mom continued her teaching career for another 30 years when she finally decided to retire. She then continued her education at the University of Winnipeg obtaining her Master’s degree in Family Therapy and continued on with a private counselling practice. Mom was always active and was known for her cooking, her gardening, her sewing and many other activities that she pursued. Mom was one of the kindest people around and if you got the chance to meet her, you would understand why. Mom was able to travel during retirement and enjoyed her trips to Europe with her sister and to the Caribbean with Dad.

We would like to thank the nurses and all the health care professionals that looked after mom during this difficult time. The genuine care and compassion shown for Mom was amazing.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025 in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. The service will be livestreamed via the following link https://youtube.com/live/TekS07vHkUE
