Ellen Drohomereski Obituary

Ellen Harriett Drohomereski
(nee Anton)

Peacefully on May 19, 2018 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Ellen, 72 years of age, passed into eternal rest with her family by her side.

Ellen was born on August 1, 1945 and raised in Whytewold, MB with her 6 younger sisters. She attended school in Winnipeg Beach and Gimli, where she met the love of her life, Murray Drohomereski. They were married on February 6, 1965 and resided in Winnipeg until 1974, when they returned to their home of Winnipeg Beach. They had 2 daughters, Deborah, born in 1965 and Krystal, born in 1975.

Ellen had various jobs over the years in addition to taking care of her daughters, but after Murray's passing, she returned to school to pursue her passion of working in health care. In 1998, she started work as a health care aide at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Gimli.  Ellen loved her job and those she took care of loved her back. Her compassion for her patients was genuine and unlimited. Her heartwarming dedication to her patients held steadfast through her 20 year career at the hospital. Mom was skilled in the kitchen. She liked to cook, but she loved to bake and often would bring favourite delicacies to our homes.

Ellen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Murray; her parents, Tom and Elsie Anton; her sisters, Heather Schmidt and Donna Pradinuk; her parents-in-law, William and Olga Drohomereski, brother-in-law, Alex Anderson and nephew, Adam Anderson.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Debbie (Brad) and Krystal (Kristjan); her grandchildren, Brettlynn (Shane), Erik and Elin. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Linda (Edmond) Zelenesky, Janice Anton, Kimberly (Dave) Basarowich, and Frederica (Lyle) Anderson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Gail Dromereski; sister-in-law Eve Anderson; brothers-in-law Larry Pradinuk and Ron (Carol) Schmidt, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.

Special thanks to Dr.R.C. Patel, the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Program. The care they provided our Mom was exceptional and deeply appreciated. Thank you to the many dear family and friends for their loving compassion, care and support.

Funeral services will be on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. with viewing at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli, MB.  Interment will follow in the Winnipeg Beach Community Cemetery.
