Emile Joseph George Lajoie
May 4, 1942 – June 13, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Emile Joseph George Lajoie, who left us peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 83.

Emile was born on May 4, 1942, in St. Anne’s, MB to Francois Lajoie and Germaine Thurston, and was raised with love and care by both of his parents along with his stepfather, Archie Thurston. Emile was a man of quiet strength and boundless determination, he lived a full and hardworking life defined by love, family, and dedication.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rita, and his children: Greg, Jeff, Sherri, and Steven (Crystal). Emile was a proud and devoted grandfather to Chanelle, Emma, Jett, Mandy, Carson, Jayla, Brie, Cory (Amy), Jaxon, Jordan, Ty, Jack, and numerous nieces and nephews. His family was his greatest joy, and he spent countless hours supporting them, especially at the hockey rink and sporting events, where his presence was a constant source of encouragement and pride.

Emile is predeceased by his siblings Jeanne Lajoie, Marcel Lajoie, Roger (Greta) Lajoie, and Roland Lajoie. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving stepsiblings Ida Thurston, Roy (Louise) Thurston, and Joan Ross, as well as sister-in-law Irene Lajoie.

Emile worked hard his entire life, always providing for his family. He was the proud founder of Emile’s Landscaping and Tree Service in Winnipeg, which he ran and worked for over 40 years with dedication and pride. A true jack of all trades, there was little he couldn’t fix or figure out, and he was always ready to lend a hand. Above all, Emile was a man who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and lived humbly. His commitment to his family and his selflessness will be remembered always.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Gateway Community Centre, 1717 Gateway Road, Winnipeg, MB. All are welcome to join us in honoring Emile’s life and legacy.
