Ethel (Marie) Pemkowski Obituary

Ethel (Marie) Pemkowski

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie, age 74 years, on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Gimli Community Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mom will be deeply missed by her devoted husband Jack, of 52 years; her four sons, Trevor (Joanne), Tracy, Kevin (Sheri) and Terry (Joanne); grandchildren Desiree, Ryan, Kael, Destiny, Emily, Kaelyn, and Halle; great grandchildren Abbigail, Bentlee, Chloe, and Cassie.

Marie is survived by her brothers Bob, John (Betty), Larry (Wendy), Loyd (Eileen), sister-in-law Linda (Tony Machado), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and step-father Bill Cullen, father John Price and in-laws Peter and Helen.

Marie was born on December 19, 1945 in Virden, Manitoba and spent some of her childhood in Alberta.  As a teenager Marie moved to Winnipeg Beach to work with her Aunt Dot at Dorothy’s Cafe where she met Jack, who was a frequent customer.  They were married on May 4, 1968.  They quickly started their family with twins Trevor and Tracy in 1969 and Kevin and Terry within the next five years which kept her very busy.

Marie had many hobbies including gardening, canning, volunteering as a Beavers leader. She spent many hours making crafts and painting in her craft shack.  She always enjoyed babysitting her adored grandchildren when they were younger and proudly attended their many concerts and events.

Marie was passionate about, and well known for, her cake decorating and was a much-respected Captain of Gimli Air Cadet Squadron with whom she served for 37 years. Marie also loved her regular coffee dates with her “Tomboy girls”.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5 between 6-8 p.m. at Gilbart’s Funeral Home in Gimli.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Winnipeg Beach.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Holy Rosary Cemetery, Box 226, Winnipeg Beach, MB, R0C 3G0.
