Eva-Lynne Sokoliwski Obituary

Eva-Lynne Gayle Sokoliwski (nee Bell)

February 18th, 1947 - May 21st, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eva-Lynne Sokoliwski. With family by her side, she passed away at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk, MB on May 21st, 2020 at the age of 73.

Eva-Lynne will be mourned by William, husband of over 51 years, brother Bruce (Maeva), children Ian (Victoria), Chris (Juanita), Vera-Lynne, grandchildren Calida, Sawyer, Jolena and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  She was predeceased by her parents Angus and Vera Bell.

Eva-Lynne started her education career at Tolstoi High School in 1966 where she met Billy. On July 27, 1968, they wed at John Black United Church.

Three children and thirteen years later she returned to her education career finding employment in the Lord Selkirk School Division at Happy Thought, Ruth Hooker and retired from St. Andrews School in 2005.

Many lifelong friendships originated from her career and hobbies including the “Happy Hookers” group that met for dinner once a month during the school year for 30+ years. She commonly held lunches or went out for meals with friends well into retirement.

Her love of animals, especially dogs and horses became much enjoyed hobbies.  Eva-Lynne bred and showed champion Collie Dogs under the kennel name Islaypark.  Her love of dogs continued afterwards by adding rescues to the family.

Early in the 1980’s, she became involved with horses through her children participating in 4H and Pony Club, which encouraged her to volunteer with these groups along with Manitoba Horse Council and introduced her to her next endeavour of stewarding horse shows.

Retirement allowed for many vacations near and far, most important was the 50th anniversary trip Eva-Lynne and Billy took. In her spare time, Eva-Lynne enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren with family dinners, attending school functions, and watching them ride horses.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Tudor House for their care and support during this difficult time and through out Eva-Lynne’s residency.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Cancer Care or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.

A private funeral will be held on June 5th, 2020 with interment at St. Clement’s Cemetery.

Condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
