Evelyn Cyr Obituary

Evelyn Marie Cyr (nee Harcus)

July 20th, 1961 – March 18th, 2023

It is with great emotion that we announce the passing of our beloved Evelyn Marie Cyr (nee Harcus) after a short yet valiant battle with cancer on March 18th, 2023, at the Riverview Health Center.

Born July 20th, 1961, to parents Olga and Don Harcus in Selkirk, Manitoba and spent the early part of her life in Port Alberni B.C.

Throughout her entire life Evelyn assumed the role of caregiver after the passing of her father, whether emotionally for herself at a young age, for her siblings, family, or anyone who Ev encountered. Ev always chose to put everyone else above herself and acted with such selflessness in all aspects of her life.

After following her mother’s footsteps Evelyn found her natural fit in nursing where she put her caring nature to good use at the St. Boniface hospital for an impressive 39-year career.

Lover of many things, Evelyn would like to be remembered as a little girl with a thirst for knowledge and quiet curiosity. Evelyn had a strong love of nature, particularly the water and always longed to be close to it.

In her last weeks the phrases and affirmations such as “Choose to thrive not just survive” and “you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have” became very present.

Evelyn will be forever remembered by her mother Olga, partner Clarke, sisters Sherry (Terry), Kim (Stan), brother Don, son Nolan (Madison), best friends Debbie and Jo-Ann, countless cousins, friends, nieces and nephews, and her precious grandson Easton, all of whom will take Evelyn’s lead to live the rest of their lives full of positivity.

Many thanks to the Riverview Health Care team, CancerCare and anyone who has played a part in Evelyn’s journey.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 24th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St, Selkirk Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Kids Help Phone or St. Boniface Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

This summer please consider planting some wildflowers in memory of Evelyn.
