FREDERICK NELSON PRODEN
November 13, 1942 - November 6, 2025
It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to Fred Nelson Proden - A husband, father, poppa, brother, cousin and friend.
Fred is survived by Lorna, his wife of 56 years, sons Marcus and Todd (Kelsey), granddaughter Ava, sister Elsie, brother Don, sister-in-law Maxine (Don), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred was born in Oak River, Manitoba on November 13, 1942 to Anne and Fred Prodan. Fred enjoyed all sports growing up, but was especially interested in hockey, baseball and track and field. After high school, Fred studied Topographic drafting at Assiniboine College in Brandon. In June of 1968, Fred started his career with the Manitoba Highways and Transportation Department in Selkirk where he worked until his retirement in 2001.
During his time in Selkirk, Fred married his wife Lorna, raised his sons while coaching many different sports teams of his own. Fred was especially proud to have been involved with the development of Selkirk Youth Hockey and the Selkirk Settlers Oldtimers Hockey team.
Fred also enjoyed spending the summers at the family campsite at Stonewall Quarry Park.
When you heard Ukrainian music, you knew Fred had arrived. Fred would host Ukrainian supper parties for his friends, where no one would leave hungry or thirsty.
In appreciation of Fred's love of his four legged friends we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed via the following link https://youtube.com/live/MIdBdUpQsnY
