Obituary

Kenneth “George” Bowman
August 18,1933- January 18,2026

Peacefully at Tudor House, George Bowman passed away at 92, he left the Earth just 19 days after his wife of 54 years, Arlene. Dad was predeceased by his parents John and Irene and his brother Glenn.
We have lost a wonderful dad and stepdad, he will be remembered forever by Tom (Row), Kerri (Roger), Glynis (Allan) and Karen. He also will be remembered by many grandchildren and his special friends and neighbours Lisa and Darin.
Dad grew up on his family farm in Petersfield, his farm life “education” provided him with the skills and knowledge to build or fix anything. Dad could rip down a tractor and put it back together, he was an accomplished blacksmith and could fashion any needed part out of a piece of scrap metal. If you were to ask him about his abilities he would simply say “oh, I can tinker”. He was always very kind and humble.
Dad quit farming in the 70’s, as a young man found employment with the Freshwater Fish Corporation. There he met Mom and they were married in 1971. Dad retired from the fishery in 1998, leaving with a spotless record of employment and a reputation of a wonderful, kind, fun loving co-worker. As Dad aged, life long friends he made at work continued to call on him. These were people of all ages, some with very different backgrounds than dad, but he managed to make friends with everyone. His mandate for us as children was to always be kind, and that extended to the pets in our lives. He was known to feed the dogs with a knife and fork.

Dad spent his retired years enjoying the summer get aways with mom. When he was home, he was spending his time in acts of service for others. He was the neighbour who would just come over and snow blow a drive way, or cut your grass. He was the dad that would be in the driveway washing your headlights on our car while we enjoyed coffee with mom. He would drive 20kms to help his daughter empty a mouse trap. After emptying the trap once, he just showed up regularly to make sure they were empty. As children, we knew he could fix anything on our bikes, so he would service our bikes and then happily service our friends bikes too. And then just random kids would show up with an issue, Dad would always help them.

It’s hard to sum up with words In a short obituary all he was and how we will miss him everyday, for the rest of our lives. But people that knew him, knew they were lucky to have him as a friend, neighbour and coworker.

The Family would like to thank the staff at SRHC and Tudor House for making Dad’s last months comfortable. Thank you to Darin and Lisa, for being a wonderful support for two aging neighbours, thank you for the countless errands and odd jobs you helped with as they required more help. Thank you for always keeping the driveway perfect in the winter and thank you for caring enough to keep an eye on them. They loved you both.

Cremation has taken place and the families will hold a private service for both mom and dad in the spring.
