Gunnar Palson
On March 24, 2023, peacefully, with his family by his side, Dad, Gunnar Boyd Palson, passed away. Left to cherish his memory are his children Karen and Terry (Sarah), grandchildren Austin (Talon), Morgan, Autumn, Gunnar and great grandson “Big Man” Arlo, along with sisters Dora, Faye (Richard) and brother Sigurjon [John] (Kathy) and sisters-in-law Francine and Donna. Dad had many nieces and nephews and cherished their surprise visits and spending time with them. Dad was predeceased by mom, Lorraine, parents Gunnar and Anna, brothers Wallace, Vincent, Victor, Fred and sisters Gay, Joy, and Lillian.
Dad was born on the family farm in Arnes in 1938, where he grew up. Dad worked on the family farm and fishing Lake Winnipeg until he and a few brothers left for Great Slave Lake to go fishing in the late 50’s. After that, Dad worked on the Black Diamond. In the early 60’s, Dad worked in Ontario cutting pulp and paper with his brothers Fred and John. Following that, in the early 70’s, Dad began driving cement trucks to various construction sites in the Interlake, including the now Diagio Plant. He then met the love of his life, Lorraine. They were married in 1977 and moved to the family farm in Arnes, which they made their life long home, while raising their children, Karen and Terry.
Dad lived out his years farming and fishing and made many friends along the way. Dad was a social butterfly and was always up for an adventure, whether it was a last minute trip to the Yukon or a ride to Frog Bay, Dad was ready to go. It didn’t matter where you were, Dad would always run into someone he knew. Dad had many good friends over the years and formed lasting friendships that will never be forgotten.
We would like to say a special thank you to family friend and neighbour, Bekka, for all her help and support over the last few months, we couldn’t have done it without you. Cousin Bob and his many trips to Arborg and providing your assistance, thank you. And lastly, thank you to Dr. Donnelley for everything.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Manitoba.
