Heather Baraniuk Obituary

Surrounded by her family, Heather Velma Baraniuk (nee Oakes) passed away peacefully on February 8, 2020 at the age of 78 years old. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 56 years, Todd, her children Wendy (Jeff), Cindy, Sandi (Darcy), Randy (Laura) and her beloved grandchildren Jesi, Cody, Brittany, Braydon, Tanner, Connor, Tiegan, Cole and Nate.  Heather is also survived by her brother Bill Oakes (Linda), brother-in-law Nestor (Sylvia), step sisters Judy Baldwin (Barry) and Diane Hogg (Harold) and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Velma Oakes.

Heather was born in Ottawa, ON, was raised in Clandeboye, MB and spent the remainder of her years in Winnipeg other than 3 years in Killarney.  Heather chose to spend a good portion of her life raising her four children.  She spent many hours volunteering at the school and getting everyone off to skating, baton, piano, swimming, brownies, scouts, hockey, just to name a few.  Heather used her seamstress talents to sew matching outfits for her kids as well as costumes for school plays and figure skating recitals.  She kept up her love for knitting year after year, knitting hundreds of sweaters, hats and mitts so she could donate them to less fortunate kids in both Mexico and Winnipeg.

Heather then spent 20+ years at Building Products prior to her and Todd retiring and spending 21 years in Texas creating an enjoyable circle of friends, you know who you are.  They also spent 46 years making many memories at their family cottage at Hillside Beach.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Moawad and Dr. Banerji and all of the nurses that took such good care of our mother.  A heart felt thank you to mom’s lifelong friend Kitty Wright who was instrumental in helping us navigate our way through this most difficult time.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Cancer Care Manitoba. One day we will cure this disease..

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, Manitoba.

Condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
