Obituary

Heather Matheson (nee Stiff)

March 17th 1957 - October 4th 2025

With a great big sadness in our hearts, we announce that our dear mother Heather Matheson (nee Stiff) has suddenly left us to join the spirit world. A wonderful mother, wife, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend. Heather Matheson was a big loud laugh and a warm hug.

Waiting to greet Heather are her Grandpa and Grandma (Stanley & Dorothy Olson (nee Asham)), her mother Doreen (Gladys) Olson, her sister Sandra, cousins Linda and Arlene, nephew Ryan, and many other loving arms.

Left to mourn are her two daughters Kayla, and Braydn, her husband Duncan Matheson, her brother and sister, Sanford and Lois, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her dog Toby who she loved very much is also surely missing sleeping on her legs at night.

Heather was born in Barrie, ON and spent most of her childhood in Winnipeg. She attended Gordon Bell Highschool and nannied during the summers with the Graham’s. Heather bravely chose new and adventurous experiences that propelled her into joyful learning through uncertainty. After high school, in the 1970’s, she travelled to Senegal with Canada World Youth. This experience impacted her greatly and she often shared stories, language, songs, and life lessons from this time. Her next adventure brought her to Halifax leading youth groups with Katimavik. Heather shared stories of having great responsibility in this program at a young age. The late 80’s brought her to the West Coast of Canada, where she took training with Montessori and worked at a daycare there. It was at this time, in Burnaby that she met Duncan, and they had two children together. Together in adventure, our family has lived in many beautiful places and met many beautiful people.

Heather inspired her daughters to be bold and brave. She was truly proud of the women they are still becoming. We will remember fondly our favourite family adventures, the beach days, pools, Pow Wows, camping, and road trips to name a few.

A life too short, but very well lived.

Heathers funeral will be held at Selkirk United Church at 202 McClean Ave., Selkirk, MB on Friday, November 14th at 11:30 a.m.

All are welcome.
