James Seagram Robert Gordon Benson

James Seagram Robert Gordon Benson, age 61, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, after a fearless fight with cancer.

Born in The Pas and having lived in Vancouver, James eventually returned back to Manitoba to live in Winnipeg in 2021.  He is survived by his parents, Patricia Ladouceur and Bill Benson (Beth) along with a large, loving family of biological and blended siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Affectionately known for his "friends in a minute" personality, James was defined by his thoughtfulness, kindness, and generosity. He spent much of his time as a companion and best friend to his mother and best friend to sister, Vanessa. His favorite traditions included meeting people on his daily travels, heading to his sister’s home every Saturday night for dinner and cards, and playing China Shores. 

An avid traveler, James recently fulfilled a dream trip to Europe in October 2024 with his sister and brother-in-law. When not exploring the world, he enjoyed the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy, particularly Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Star Wars, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

His passing will truly leave a big void in the lives of those he has touched.

Cremation will take place on February 20, 2026, at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, Manitoba. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held near Lake Manitoba in July 2026.
