Janice Starodub

December 31, 2017

Janice Starodub (nee Bobrowich)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janice on Sunday, December 31, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Janice is survived by her husband Phil and their children Jonathan, Matthew and Tiana; parents Charlie and Joanne Bobrowich; brothers Greg (Lorraine), Brad (Corinne) and their families; mother in law Helen Starodub (Philip – predeceased); sister in law Joanne (Craig) Fiebelkorn and family.

Janice was born January 28, 1968, was raised and continued to reside in St. Andrews.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg in 1990.  During her University years she worked many jobs to pay for her schooling, which included Dairy Queen, Universal Woodworking and ran the WOW program for teens in Selkirk.  After graduation she began employment with the Winnipeg Humane Society in their education program.  She then began part  time teaching jobs with both William Whyte and Mapleton schools until she attained her dream job at St. Andrews school, the same elementary school she attended as a child.

Janice was involved in many extra-curricular activities including Ukrainian Dancing, figure skating, baseball, ringette and additionally she achieved her Grade 8 with the Royal Conservatory of Piano.

After her marriage to Phil in August 1991, they resided in several locations including Matlock, East Selkirk, Sunrise Bay in Lockport and eventually their dream home on Maple Cliff Cove in St. Andrews.  Due to unfortunate circumstances they were forced to sell and downsize to a home on Hay Avenue and then eventually moved back to her childhood home on Captain Kennedy where she resided until her passing.  She loved her ‘little home”.

Due to health problems she was forced to leave her beloved teaching career.  Never one to sit idle she did some interior design consulting with Windsor Plywood before finding her new passion.   Janice’s love for music led her to start her business, JANSTAR Entertainment, a Music Consultant/ Management company.  Recently she was honoured with a Manitoba Talent Development Award through the Manitoba Country Music Association.  She made a whole new “music family” and loved every minute of it.

Janice loved people and would talk to anyone.  She was a kind and caring person who touched many hearts.  She was a beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend who always put people first every day, even the days she was in great pain.  She displayed great strength and her smile will be missed and thought of every day.

Special thanks to the exceptional nursing staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their amazing care.  A service will be held on Thursday, January 11th at 1 pm at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancercare Manitoba, Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com.
