Jason Wilson Franklin
August 30, 1972 - June 5, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jason Franklin on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at home with his loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jason is survived by his wife of 27 years Pamela, daughters Chloe and Emma, and his best buddy and constant companion Oliver. Also left to mourn his loss are sisters Tammy (Randy and Racheal) and Karen, in-laws Bill and Lovey Bosiuk, Jason and Jessica Bosiuk, and Liam, Calum, Shay and Esmay, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In addition, he received the unconditional love and acceptance of new found family members John Pawlyk, Johnny Pawlyk, Brandine and Randy Viskup, and Coleby and Megan. Jason was predeceased by his parents Patricia and Kenneth Franklin.
Jason grew up in East Kildonan attending Bertrun E. Glavin Elementary School, Valley Gardens Junior High, and Kildonan East Collegiate. His favourite place was Falcon Lake, where he spent all of his summers as a child. Every year he returned to jump off the rocks at his favourite swimming spot. Jason found his calling in sales, spending over 20 years as a sales representative and account manager. He made lasting friendships with colleagues and clients, winning them over with his sense of humour and easy-going nature. Jason loved world history and politics and was a walking encyclopedia on these topics, among many others. In 2004, he was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Governor General of Canada for "providing assistance to another person in a selfless manner". While returning home on the Trans-Canada Highway from a work trip in Saskatchewan, Jason was first on the scene of a head-on collision where he pulled a young man out of his vehicle that had started on fire. This was one of three different times that he came across accidents and helped people trapped in their vehicles. Jason could always be counted on to be calm and rational, even in the most stressful of situations.
Jay's greatest accomplishment was his girls. He spent weekends when they were young taking them on adventures and to his favourite places. As they grew older, he spent countless hours driving them to their sports, activities and jobs, enjoying every minute of it and making new friends along the way. He wanted more than anything to see them accomplish their goals. We were fortunate that he was able to see Chloe graduate from university and start her career, and see Emma accepted into university to play the sport he always hoped she would. They will both continue to do him proud.
Jay was a huge sports fan and his fondest memories were made with friends on annual trips to watch the PGA or to golf and catch a Vikings game. He also enjoyed volunteering at different sporting events like the Ryder Cup in Medinah, the Canadian Women's Open, and the Canada Games.
A heartfelt thank you to Jay's family and many friends for their endless love and support, and for all of the texts, calls and visits over the course of his illness.
Thank you as well to all of the kind individuals who cared for Jason when he spent time in the hospital, at CancerCare and in palliative care, and for the home care workers who's help allowed him to be comfortable at home where he wanted to be.
Cremation has taken place. No formal service will be held, as so many took the time to go to the hospital or come to our home to visit with Jason in person.
Those special memories of you
Will always bring a smile
If only we could have you back
For just a little while
Then we could sit and talk again
Just like we used to do
You always meant so very much
And always will still too
The fact that you're no longer here
Will always cause us pain
But you're forever in our hearts
Until we meet again
