Jean Vivie Monkman (nee Davidson)
November 18, 1957-September 19, 2020
On Saturday, at the Selkirk Hospital, our lovely Jean left this earth as gently as she graced it. She leaves her loving husband, Raymond; adored daughter Ashley and father-in-law, Ted Monkman (Rae). She also leaves her sisters Gladys (Ernest) Babineau of N.B. and Rose (Terry) Heddon of Yorkton and their children. Also mourning her loss is Raymond’s siblings, Karin (Miles) Vandermaar, Michelle (Colin) Bahm, Vivian Mazur, Rod (Gina) Monkman and Catherine Green and their families. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Vina Macek and John Davidson, sister Margaret and mother-in-law Lilo.
Jean was separated from her parents at an early age and endured a traumatic childhood in foster care. She met Raymond and together they worked hard to make a good life. She was kind and caring to Raymond’s family becoming close to her in-laws. Painful memories of abuse haunted her and she journeyed through PTSD with Raymond’s support. Then, after 15 years, in the Year of the Family, Ashley was born. To Jean, this was a gift from heaven. She adored her daughter with every fibre of her being. No child was ever loved or protected more. Ashley gave her the happiness she never knew as a child and she tried to be the mother she never had herself. Jean was as kind, compassionate and caring as only those who have suffered can be. Her warmth will be missed by all.
Jean will be cremated with interment at a later date. In her memory, please feed the birds, help animals, and think of her when you see wildflowers for she was a free and gentle flower, growing wild.
