Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Jodie Michael Chief

On Saturday, December 20, 2025, with family by his side at Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Jodie Michael Chief of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, aged 50 years, passed away.

Jodie was predeceased by his parents, George and Diane Gajausky, and by his beautiful daughter Hailey and Brandon his son in law.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Jaclyn; his children Corey, Emma, Riley (Chenelle), and Westyn; along with many extended family members, friends, and community members.

Jodie spent the majority of his life in Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, where he was known for his kindness, his open heart, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He joined the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation Fire Department at just 18 years old and proudly served his community as a firefighter for over 32 years. He ran toward danger so others could feel safe, never asking for recognition—only wanting to help. Even when cancer prevented him from attending calls and meetings, Jodie remained a firefighter at heart until the day he passed.

You couldn’t go anywhere with Jodie without him stopping to say hello. He saw people—really saw them—and made everyone feel welcome, like they mattered. He was loving, caring, and hardworking, a gentle soul with quiet strength.

My best friend.
My forever love.
My husband.

Watching him leave this world broke my heart, because loving him was easy, and losing him is unbearable. Now, when I say goodnight to our daughter Hailey , I imagine her wrapped in your arms—safe, loved, and at peace. And I’ll be honest—sometimes I feel jealous, because I want to be with you too. But until that day comes, I will carry your love forward: in our children, in our memories, and in every “hello” you taught me to give.

You were deeply loved, Jodie.
You always will be.

Forever yours.
