John Dalebozik
August 9, 1934 – February 17, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of John’s peaceful passing at Tudor House in Selkirk at the age of 90.
A lifetime of treasured memories will be a blessing to his wife of 64 years, Erika, and his children, John (Sara) and Kristine (Sean). Grandpa John will be remembered by his six grandchildren, Cheryl Marrone (Gabe), Leanne Andrews (Scott), Tara Medeiros (Brian), Holly Dalebozik (Matt), Mitchell and Kendall Barnes, along with their families. John will also be mourned by his brothers, Harry (Betty), Roy (Annie) and Richard (Gail), as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, on the Telke side of family as well, neighbours and dear friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Anne Dalebozik, his son Ken, great-granddaughter Juliette, and daughter-in-law, Debbie.
John grew up along the Red River between Lockport and East Selkirk. As an adult, he carried on the family crop farm, growing grains and potatoes, prior to working as an evening custodian at Lockport School, until his retirement in 1997.
Dad grew the most incredible vegetable gardens together with Mom, often sharing their bounty with us kids, neighbours and even the soup kitchen in town. He and Mom also spent many days sheltered in their ice fishing shack catching pickerel, and sometimes just “fish stories” to chuckle over. Dad enjoyed playing cards and board games with friends and family, working on jigsaw puzzles, reading and cheering for the Winnipeg Jets. Most of all, Dad loved to spend time in the company of those he held close to his heart, having lively discussions, sometimes arguing just to argue with a mischievous glint in his eyes, sharing a few laughs and making family and friends feel important to him.
Dad suffered a stroke in May which left him without the use of his legs. By early July, he moved into Tudor House – which, ideally, was connected to Woodland Courts affording Mom and Dad to still spend most of their waking hours together. We are so proud of how Mom cared for Dad so lovingly. We would like to thank the staff of Tudor House for their compassionate care, and for taking the time to get to know Dad as a person. Warm thanks also go out to the staff of Woodland Courts who took such good care of mom, as they still do.
Dad has been the most loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His absence will be very difficult, but he left us with many memories to treasure for always. Rest peacefully, Dad. We love you.
Funeral service will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, located at 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk, MB. on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed via the following link https://youtube.com/live/b9Nf9aBF1Gw?feature=share
