John Dejonckheere Obituary

Jean-Pierre (John) Dejonckheere

Peacefully, on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Jean-Pierre (John) Dejonckheere, aged 78 years of St. Andrews, MB, passed away.

John is survived by his children James, Jo-Anne and their mother Anna; Kelly, Bonnie (Myron), Christi (Halil), and Keri; grandchildren, Zach, Amanda, John, Zane, Megan, Emma (Alex), Alex, and Isobel; sister Mary Lou; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Valentine, his brother Carl and sister-in-law Lorraine, brother-in-law Joe, and his beloved Linda who he was with for over 35 years.

John was born in Belgium and moved to Canada with his family in 1948. They started their homestead in Starbuck, MB and then later moved to East Selkirk, MB.

John started his career at Mandak in 1969 and helped build its foundation. He met many friends and colleagues there who he still kept in touch with over the years. He retired in 2006 at the age of 61.  Around the same time he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, but despite that he did not let that get in the way of living his life on his terms.

John cherished his times with all his hunting and fishing buddies, going on the yearly Thanksgiving Day hunt, and travelling to the Old Dutch Cabin, and Eagle’s Nest Lodge for fly in fishing trips.

We will cherish all the gatherings we had as a family during all the holidays, and they just won’t be the same without our Dad and Grandpa.

We would like to thank all the paramedics and staff in the emergency department at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre along with the doctors, nurses and health care aides who provided care to him over the last few years.

A service celebrating John’s life will be held on Friday, March 17th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. The service will be streamed live and can be viewed via the following link https://youtube.com/live/E1Y6X1NLwIo
