John Libich Obituary

John Libich

John Libich passed away the morning of December 2, 2021 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.
He was predeceased by his wife Irene, his parents Michael and Eva, and his brother Peter.
His memory will be cherished and he will be greatly missed by his children Arlene, Andrew, and William and his grandson, Nicholas Abbott. He is also survived by his siblings, their spouses and children, including his brothers, Steven (Maxine) and Donald (Jane); his sister, Evelyn (Bert); and his sister-in-law, Ann.
He was delivered into this world by a midwife in Libau, Manitoba on April 28, 1934 and raised in a farm environment. Displaying mechanical interest and ability in his youth, he was inclined to the equipment and vehicle aspects of the farm, and pursued a passion for electronics. After secondary studies at Happy Thought School in East Selkirk, left Manitoba to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1955. His career as a Professional Engineer took him to many places, but he was drawn back to his home province to work for the Manitoba Power Commission, and continued to work at the company after its name changed to Manitoba Hydro. He spent many happy and rewarding years there, and looked forward to starting his work day having a friendly breakfast with his fellow employees.
In his spare time, he enjoyed vacationing at the lake with his family, photography, card-playing, and vegetable gardening. He was a wizard at repair and maintenance, and designed his leisure home which he built while teaching his children construction skills.
When he retired in 1993, he continued his love of contract bridge and growing produce, and discovered new pastimes including tree farming and culinary arts, the latter of which his family greatly appreciated at their lively dinner table. In his later years he was blessed with time spent with his grandson.
There will be no funeral or service. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Harvest Manitoba, or a charity of your choice. Thank you.
