John Oig Obituary

Lawrence John Oig (John)

John departed for his eternal destination on April 23, 2023, with Diamond Gracie by his side.  John was predeceased by his soul mate and wife June, who left on her journey on February 9, 2022.  June’s departure left John with a broken heart. He has now joined his soul mate for eternity.  He will also join his family and friends that went before him, mother Jean, father Bill, brothers Jimmy and Howard, grandparents Lawrence and Margret Smith, father-in-law Mel Bedard and sister-in-law Marilyn Bedard, niece Desi Walker along with many other family and friends.

John leaves behind his sister Susan, brother Doug along with his nieces Pam, Laura, Sheena, nephews James, JR and Clayton, sister-in-law Debbie and stepsisters Rain, Stacy, Billy and Bobby, mother-in-law Beatrice Bedard, brother-in-law Paul Bedard, sisters-in-law Marie (Ernest) Walker, Linda (Robert) Hermanson.

In his younger years John spent a lot of time with his grandparents at their Taylor Avenue home enjoying the pets and goodies granny and grandpa would have.  John in his teen years was always surrounded by his rowdy friends that liked to have fun and skip school.  Once John met June she became the center of his life along with their pets.  They were married on May 13, 1994.

John and June worked together at the Two Timers Thrift Shop and met a lot of new friends.  They always had stories and laughs to share.  Together they lived a full life surrounded by their fur babies and family. They enjoyed each other’s company and shared many stories and laughs together. When you were with John and June together you could feel the love and friendship they had for each other.  John was a little rough on the edges but had a heart of gold always willing to help, offer a handshake or a hug and was so proud of his family especially his nieces and nephews.  His niece Pam made him a special beaded hat that he was so proud of and wore it with pride. Sheena, Kingsley and Brooklyn were always there to help their Uncle John and will miss him.

The family would like to thank the RCMP and Emergency Medical Responders for their support and professionalism during a difficult time.  Thank you to Marie, Booteum and Bedard family for always being there to help John when his health was failing and he needed support.  Your kindness and caring in providing John with comfort will always be appreciated. We also thank Gilbart’s Funeral Home for their service and compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of John’s life will be held on his 64th birthday, May 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Gilbart’s Funeral Home, Selkirk.  A burial will take place at the Old Stone Church after the service.  For those unable to attend the service will be livestreamed via the following link https://youtube.com/live/IICzHH-HahM
