Josephine Pauline Anderson (nee Hokanson)
April 28 1938 - June 6 2020
On June 6, 2020, a heart of gold stopped beating, and Josephine left us to be with her family and friends who she missed so much.
Josephine leaves to mourn her husband Beggie and sons Grant (Tracy), Blaine (Svetlana), Kevin (Lynn) and daughter Shianne (Carl). Amma will be missed by her grandchildren of whom she was so proud: Nathan, Leah, Julia, Schuyler, Alex, Max, Jakob, Bryndís, Kristján, and Erin. Josephine will also be missed by her sisters Inez and Lillian, and brothers Dale, Lynn, and Charles and their families. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Martin (Barbara), Wayne, John and sisters-in-law Lillian (Lawrence), Marilyn, Marg, and Valdine. She loved her huge extended family of nieces and nephews and cousins, including the ‘Americans’, and all the extras she claimed as her own over the years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Evelyn Hokanson, brothers Ken, Roddy, Clifford and sister Alice, grandson Craig and many beloved in-laws and out-laws (her term!).
Mom was born and raised in the Riverton area in a large, loving family. She married Dad at 17 and together they showed the world what unconditional love looked like for nearly 65 years. They lived in many different places - from a 10x12 trailer in Cranberry Portage to a waterfront house in Sooke, BC, but Arborg was home. Mom did a fantastic job holding the fort while Dad earned a living away from home. She raised the four of us with love, humour and the threat of the wooden spoon and always said we turned out great.
We’ve lost a good and loyal friend. Joey had so many friends and made new ones wherever she went. Family was very important to her and she was instrumental in keeping on top of everyone and organizing get-togethers. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of family lore and knew absolutely everyone’s birthday.
Josephine took pride in serving her church and community and dedicated many hours to both. She and Beggie opened their home to anyone who needed a place to stay and she kept in touch with everyone who signed their guest book.
Although we will miss her so much we are grateful she is not suffering anymore.
Burial has taken place and a memorial will be held at a later date.
