Joyce Muriel Amey (nee Hansen) 

Joyce passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the age of 91 at Selkirk Regional Health Centre. 

She will lovingly be remembered and missed by her son David (Diana), son Todd, granddaughter Kate (Jean), grandson Daniel (Justine), and great-granddaughters Charlotte and Rosalie. She was predeceased by her husband Herb in 2022. They were married 66 years. 

Joyce was born at home in Winnipeg to Gordon and Cora Hansen.  In her early years she worked at Birks, a dental office and the bank until she met Herb at the Tall Toppers Club at the YMCA. They married in April 1956 and bought their one and only house in St. Vital where they raised their two boys. She went back to work first at K-mart and then as a school secretary at Dr.  D. W. Penner School when it opened in 1976 where she had a long career and made lifelong friends. Social in nature, Joyce was the ultimate hostess. She loved to cook and entertain and be around friends. Being tall and statuesque she learned to sew her own clothes and was always very stylish and well-dressed. As one nurse so eloquently put it “she was a lady”.

When Joyce and Herb retired they moved to Silver Harbour and enjoyed many years of country life and then moved into Gimli for their remaining years. They were longtime members of the New Horizon’s 55+ Centre and made many friends and enjoyed the club social events. They also loved to travel and spent their winter months as Snowbirds. Joyce will be joining Herb now for their four o’clock Happy Hour which she truly missed over the past three years. 

The family would like to express our gratitude to the Interlake Senior Resources and the Home Care Team along with the nurses and staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion of Joyce. 

In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held.
