Joyce Johnson (nee Zabirka)

October 6, 1926 - February 28, 2020

Our Mother and Amma peacefully passed away at the Gimli Betel Home with her family present sharing their stories. She lived a long life and was cherished by family and highly regarded by friends.

Mom leaves a loving and grateful family, daughter Olena Valgardson; son David Johnson (Pat); grandchildren Kim and Shawn, Erin (Brett) and Matt, Teressa and Kevin (Jody), Arielle (Kurt) and Jesse; great-grandchildren Dawson, Mackenzie, Emily, Riley, Brody, Ostyn and Tytan; daughters-in-law Hazel and Sally

Predeceased by her husband Olafur; sons Donald and Van; son-in-law Dale and grandson Geir.

Joyce was passionate about baking and cooking. She was always trying new recipes and enhancing ones that family loved. Her glazed donuts were a family favourite. Requests were made and mom's response, "It's no problem!"

She worked as a cook for Orbanski and Erickson Construction Companies, CN Rail, Luther Village, Sunrise Camp, Camp Arnes, and Camp Neustadt. Mom never complained about her busy schedule, the long hours that she worked or the health problems that she encountered.

A special thanks to her sister-in-law, Lorraine for her love and support and to Gunvor her good friend.

Thanks to Arborg Assisted Living and Gimli Betel Home staff for their care and compassion.

Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
