Judith Anne Vigfusson (nee Nichol)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Judie on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the Gimli Community Health Centre.
Judie leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband John Vigfusson, sons Dale (Ildiko) and Dallas Haigh; grandsons Ryan (Charity) and Landon Haigh, great granddaughters Saydee and Anna Anderson and her special friend of 80 years, Helen Herr. She also leaves many relatives on the Vigfusson side and would like to thank two nieces, Louise Tower and Kerrine Adair for all they’ve done for her.
Judie was born June 4, 1936 in the Regina Misericordia Hospital and grew up in Regina. She was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Beatrice Nichol and her brother Bobby.
After finishing high school she attended Reliance School of Commerce where she learned to type and worked at a variety of jobs. In 1958 she married and moved to Winnipeg where Dale was born a year later. In 1962 the family moved to Goose Bay with the military and Dallas was born there in 1963.
In 1966 the family moved to Germany where they lived for four years and had many travels all over Europe. In 1970 they moved back to Canada and lived on base in Shilo and then a couple of years later they moved Carberry, Manitoba. Once the boys were in college Judie moved to Winnipeg and then to Virden.
Judie lived in Virden for several years where she worked at a Group Home for mentally challenged individuals. In 1998 she married John and moved to the farm, Osland, north of Riverton. They became members of the Riverton Community Church of the Nazarene where they made many special friends.
Judie had a wonderful friendships with a group of women she met with weekly at TOPS and she looked forward to their time together every Thursday and treasured their friendship, as she did all her friends.
John and Judie were fortunate to have 28 wonderful years together. She so enjoyed being the wife of a farmer. They went on many adventures together throughout Canada and the USA. They spent 19 winters as snowbirds in Pine to Palm Resort Park in Texas and in 2014 they moved from the farm to Gimli.
Judie was an avid swimmer and taught swimming in Goose Bay. She was President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #153 in Carberry, Executive member of the Carberry Ladies’ Investment Club and Past Officer of the Order of the Eastern Star, Carberry Chapter. She loved to sew and made many beautiful quilts for her family. More recently she started making quilted hearts to leave for those in need of a hug #IFAQH. Judie said they were nothing special, she made them just to make people smile.
Judie was a strong Christian believer and was brought up in the United Church in Regina. She continued to have strong faith throughout her whole life.
A celebration of life will be held at Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, February 1, at 11:00 a.m. with Menno Friesen officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Regina, beside her parents.
Flowers are gratefully declined and if you choose to, donations to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated.
