Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Kenneth Brian Steele on May 25, 2025, just shy of his 85th birthday.

Ken was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the fourth of six children. He grew up surrounded by the love, chaos, and camaraderie of a big prairie family. Life in Winnipeg shaped him—resilient, kind, and never without a sense of humour. As any Canadian knows, Winnipeg winters are no small feat, and perhaps that’s what prompted Ken to venture west as a young man, where he eventually settled in beautiful British Columbia.

In BC, Ken built a successful career, primarily working to support others through his involvement with the Teamsters Union and the WCB Review Board. He took great pride in helping people navigate challenges and advocating for fairness.

Later in life, Ken returned to his roots in Winnipeg, reconnecting with childhood friends and embracing the comfort of home and memory. A few years ago, he was diagnosed with dementia and transitioned into long-term care. Even in the most difficult moments, Ken’s gentle spirit and dry wit shone through.

You are remembered with love by your son, Brian Crawford (Kenneth Brian Steele Jr), and an extended family of nieces and nephews: Patricia Holder, April Gustafson, Catherine Harrison, Mike Steele, Kim Senkiw, Jennifer Wishnie, Andrew Koeman, Mark Steele,  Jimmy Steele, Sandra Bettanin, Bonnie Ouellette and Craig Steele, along with all their spouses and children. Your presence in our lives has left an indelible mark.

Ken also leaves behind many dear friends, including Rodger Bourgut, Linda Clark, Dana Clark, Calvin Kuch, Joey Kuch, Lennon Kuch, Shelley Thiessen, Arlene Dorsett, and countless others throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba. Ken had a rare gift: he made friends wherever he went.

A service to honour Ken’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Ken, our memories of you are safely tucked in our hearts. Thank you for your kindness, your wisdom, your laughter, and your love.

You are missed. You are loved. You are forever in our hearts.
