Obituary

Ladislav (Laddie) Capuska

September 22, 1931 – December 14, 2024

Peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, Laddie passed away at the age of 93.

Left to cherish Laddie’s memory are his sons Lyall (Kym) and Greg (Melori), grandchildren Lyall Jr (Liz), Tyson, Katrina (Evan), and Winston (Brooklyn), and great-grandchildren Kenna, Eleanor and Carter, his companion Toni Courchaine, his brother Nelson and his nieces and nephews.

Laddie was predeceased by his wife Margaret of 52 years, his parents Ludwik and Julia, his brothers Rudy, Cliffard, and Mike and sisters Helen and Thelma.

Laddie was born in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Canada in 1937 with his parents and baby brother Rudy. The family lived in Winnipeg for a short while until they purchased a farm in Gunton.  Laddie called Gunton home until he married the love of his life Margaret in 1954 at which time they moved to Teulon.  In 1968 Laddie and Margaret purchased a farm near Winnipeg Beach.  The farm is where Laddie fulfilled his dream of farming and raising his family.

Before farming Laddie worked in the mines in Red Lake Ontario, the Railway, the Winnipeg Sewers, and the Teulon Hosiery Mill. Laddie volunteered in building the Teulon Golf Course and coached boys baseball.

Laddie had a passion for tinkering and repairing small engines.  There weren’t many he couldn’t fix.  In his later years Laddie enjoyed  visiting with anyone who stopped by to have a visit on the stools outside the workshop.

Laddie loved to hunt, curl and golf and he loved to play crib and wore out many decks of cards playing games with family, friends, and neighbours.  The grand-kids had to learn to count their points fast as Grandpa was quick to gather the cards and deal out the next hand.

As per Laddie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a small family gathering will be at a later date.

The Family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their comfort and support to our dad, grandpa,  and great-grandpa.
