Obituary

LARRY ATEAH

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Ateah, aged 88, who left us peacefully on March 2nd, 2025.

Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Diana of 62 years, his children Kathy (Ed), Laura (Tom), Dean (Monica), Jason (Lindsay) and eight beautiful grandchildren: Alex, Zach, Karly, Hope, Ryan, Mary, Parker, & Ruby.

He is predeceased by his parents Sam and Jessie, older sister Dale and twin sister Larrette.

Larry was born in Victoria Beach on February 8th, 1937.  He grew up in the community and worked with his dad supplying wood and ice to the cottagers.  Larry moved to Winnipeg for school and worked at various construction jobs in Manitoba and Ontario until he started his career with Lucerne foods, ending as a Plant Engineer.  Although he and Diana lived and raised their family in Winnipeg, Victoria Beach was always home.  They built a beautiful log cottage in 1970 which eventually became their permanent home.  After retirement he started a water business and managed the VB recycling program until he retired (again) at 80.

Larry and Diana loved travelling with their RV south to Arizona and Texas, and north to Alaska, making life-long friendships along the way.  The extended family camping trips to Rushing River were a memorable highlight for all.   Larry had a resourceful, inventive mind and he could fix or build just about anything, with a garage which rivalled Home Hardware. Larry was loved and respected by so many.  His warmth, generosity, kindness, and humor touched the lives of all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at the East Beaches Social Scene, 3 Ateah Road in Victoria Beach on Sunday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare, MB or a charity of your choice.
