Obituary

Laury James Ward

August 31, 1966 - April 2, 2026

With profound sadness, mingled with gratitude, we announce the sudden, yet lengthy death of Laury, who "marched to the tune of his own drummer". He no longer struggles with either emotional nor physical pain. He's free.

He worked at the Selkirk Mental Hospital kitchen when he was 18, until December 15, 1984. Early on that morning he lost an argument with a telephone pole. Hospitalized in HSC for 10 months, saw him lose the use of his let leg and amputation of his left arm, plus repair of multi-area of his body. He sustained a lower back injury, which caused decades of pain, only alleviated by strong medical pain killers.

Over the years he deteriorated until on March 20th at 3:00 a.m. his Dad and him travelled to Selkirk and District General Hospital where he was admitted with an infected left foot. His condition continued in a downward spiral until having been transferred back to HSC, he succumbed to his injuries on April 2, 2026.

Flowers are gratefully declined. if desired donations to a cat shelter is suggested.

He was loving and loved by mom, Joyce, his 2nd Dad, Peter; his brothers Michael (Sue), Rick (Shauna), and niece Hayley (Seth). He was predeceased by his father, Don.

No memorial event is planned, however, friends and family are welcome to come by for coffee should they so wish.
