Leslie Marchak Obituary

Leslie Michael Marchak

October 23, 1940-September 23, 2020

After another successful haying season and a brief battle with cancer, Les passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 23, 2020 at the age of 79 years.

Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lydia of 58 years, his daughter Pam, son Darcy (Marni), granddaughter Chantel (Josh) and his great grandson Karsen...aka Little Papa.He will also be greatly missed by his sisters Sharon (David) and Jeannette (Richard), brother-in-law Albert, sisters-in-law Hugguette and Marilyn, his favourite neighbour boys Henry and Luke, numerous nieces & nephews and close friends.

Les was predeceased by his parents Michael and Frances, sister's Lorraine, Betty, Helen, Irene; brothers Andy, Bert and Anthony; sister-in-law Elizabeth, nephews Sheldon, Darrell and Brian.

Les was born on October 23, 1940 in Gimli, MB. One of the first babies to be born in the new Gimli hospital. He grew up in Inwood and Narcisse, MB. He went to school up to grade 6 and then worked on the family farm. He met Lydia and they married in 1962.His first job was pounding fence posts for the Community Pasture.  After that he worked numerous construction jobs; for BACM, Commonwealth Construction, Harrisons Trucking, and Missawa homes. In 1979 he went to work for the Town of Gimli. In 1997 he retired, and worked full time at the job he loved - making hay. He always said making hay was his vacation, and he anxiously awaited to get haying every year. He served on the council for RM of Armstrong as counselor and Reeve for 16 years. He liked fishing, hunting and the occasional trip to the casino. He was a jokester and loved a good prank or a dirty joke. He was proud of his family and liked nothing better when they all came home to visit. Chicken soup on Sunday's was always a guaranteed meal. It made him extremely happy to see his great grandson Karsen zip around on his ranger with a big smile on his face.
