Linda June Kalyniuk (nee Soboden)
November 15, 1940 – August 11, 2025
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Linda June Kalyniuk at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters Pamela (Kory), Leslie (Joe), Sharon (Chris), Laura (Barry); grandchildren Cara (Jody), Aaron, Amy, Katey, Jodi, Klayton, Kelsey, Kimberly; great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Landon, Zoey, Lyla, Violet, Loghan.
Linda was predeceased by her husband of 40 years Paul, stepdaughter Monica and parents Joseph and Doris Soboden.
Linda was born in Winnipeg on November 15, 1940 to Joseph and Doris Soboden and grew up on Cathedral Avenue. Linda married her first husband Charles Harding on May 14, 1960 and raised her first four girls in Transcona. During this time, she worked at Great West Life and Woolco. She also did telephone surveys with her cousin and neighbours.
Linda married Paul July 9, 1977 and moved to the farm with him and his children on Pigeon Bluff Road near Selkirk. We became known as the house with the seven girls and sometimes one boy. Along with the farm, they also ran a horse-riding camp in Dallas, Manitoba where they would pick up a group of kids each week and teach them how to ride. As if life wasn’t busy enough Mom also worked for Stats Canada, Selkirk Handi Bus, and then Canada Post where she fed every dog on her mail route. Mom was a hard worker looking after all of us, the animals and processing all the vegetables from Paul’s huge bountiful garden.
Mom’s hobbies included sewing, (tap dance costumes, clothing for her grandchildren, and Western shirts), playing cards all night at the cottage, baking, and watching Bomber and Jets games but her favorite sports to watch were her grandchildren’s. She also loved to read a book at night while eating a bowl of cornflakes before going to bed. Mom was also a good artist and loved animals something she inherited from her mom. She also had fond memories of the trip to the East coast with Paul.
Mom’s greatest pleasure during her last few weeks were visits from her great-grand daughters Lyla and Violet. No matter how bad she was feeling they would always get her attention and cheer her up, receiving many smiles from her for their antics and caring nature.
The family would like to thank the staff at Tudor House Personal Care Home for their excellent care and compassion. Her favorite activity was the weekly visit from Dave and Bella.
A memorial service will be held at Gilbart’s Funeral Home on Tuesday August 19th, at 4:00 p.m. Luncheon to follow the service in the Gilbart’s reception center with interment to follow at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, active Pallbearers will be Kory Chaput, Joe Clifton, Chris McMahon, Barry Barthelette, Jody Woycheshen, and Aaron Clifton.
