Lorraine Edith Allarais Miller (née MacDonald) was born in Prince Albert, NWT/SK on the 29th of February 1948 to Hazel Julia Allarais and Morley Alexander MacDonald, and she died peacefully in Selkirk, MB on the 4th of February 2026.
Lorraine graduated from the U of M with a BComm (Hons) in 1971 and a Dip. Fine Arts in 1976. She was an artist in everything she did and gave her entire heart to every creature she cared for, including her three kids. She lost her father suddenly and tragically when she was in her mid-teens, and despite persistent fear of losing other loved ones she loved fiercely and showed her kids how to do the same. She loved the rivers and wild spaces in Winnipeg and all along the Red River, until it meets Lake Winnipeg, and was tirelessly curious about all types of plants and creatures she encountered. All who knew her valued her company.
Lorraine was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in May of 2025 and went through a gruelling program of chemo- and radiation therapies, but in the end it was too much to fight and she spent her last six months at home with her son Leslie and her cats.
Lorraine followed after her mother, father, and grandparents, and she left behind her children Leslie, James (Patty), Alexis (Denis); grandchildren Olivia, and Thomas; her brothers Garry, Doug (Li-Jean), and Terry.
We'll see you sometime in the future, Maman
The family would like to thank the staff in Medicine 1 at Selkirk Hospital for the care, concern and affection that they showed during Lorraine's final weeks.
