Lynda Ann McMurachy (née Makara), of Riverton passed away peacefully on August 23rd, 2023, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Lynda will be dearly missed and always remembered, she was just 77 years old. Her life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that she stayed here.
Lynda was predeceased by her late husband Irvin Turkitch, parents James and Elsie Makara (née Bruce), brothers Keneth, Alan, Chuck, her granddaughter Cassandra, and her beloved dog Patches. She is survived by her husband Brendon (Ben) McMurachy, brother Steve Makara (Patricia), children Darryl Turkitch, Michelle Turkitch, Crystal Martin, Jewel McMurachy (Chad), Robin Bennu, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
To sum up Lynda’s life in only a few paragraphs would be an impossible task – but one we’re still willing to try.
Lynda was born in Gimli on June 12th, 1946, the second youngest of 5 children. She often complained about the teasing that 4 brothers brought, and didn’t like doing the “women’s work” but helped her mom being the only girl of the family.
She married Irvin Turkitch, with whom she had her first 2 children Darryl and Michelle. Lynda lovingly cared for Irvin in the final stages of his life. Out dancing one night, Lynda met the next love of her life, Ben McMurachy – Lynda and Ben danced their life away attending every old time dance they could for months, they were married in Selkirk on June 23rd, 2012. With Ben, Lynda also gained her beloved pup, Patches. After getting married, they travelled extensively after packing up the house and moving into a 5th wheel trailer, eventually finding their second home in Mission, Texas and coming home to Manitoba every summer. After covid closed the border behind them in the spring of 2020, this led them to buy their home in Lynda’s home town of Riverton, Manitoba in the fall of 2020. In three short years she has won the hearts of most friends, relatives, and the community of Riverton. Lynda loved her flowers, her garden (as small as it is), along with the very happy birds who enjoyed her bird seed and nectar.
Lynda’s presence and smile lit up any room she entered, and it will be sorely missed.
A celebration of life will be held in her honour at Riverton Fellowship Circle (Riverton, Manitoba) on September 23rd, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
