Obituary

MARJORIE ANN ZURVEL

1948-2023

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Ann Zurvel at the Portage General Hospital on Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Marjorie was the “special daughter” of the late Peter and Sophie Zurvel.  Born in Selkirk, Manitoba on May 31, 1948. At the age of 10 Marjorie’s new home was the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage La Prairie for the next 65 years. Marjorie was diagnosed with Severe Mental Retardation.

The staff of MDC have been caring and wonderful to Marjorie over the years.  Everyone who worked there knew her by name and she smiled and wanted “Big Hugs”.

To mourn her passing, Marjorie leaves behind her sisters Gail Bodman (Bill) and Christine Purvis (Billy) and their respective children and families.

A private internment for Marjorie’s ashes was held at the Notre Dame Columbarium with Father Gerald Langevin Officiating.

Marjorie is now flying with the angels in the arms of her Mom and Dad.

If anyone wishes, a donation in her memory can be made to Inclusion Selkirk, 306 Jemima St, Selkirk, MB   R1A 1X1.
