Obituary

Marvin John Winkler

1944 – 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of Marvin John Winkler announces his passing on March 9, 2025 at the age of 80.

Marvin was born on June 27, 1944 in St. Andrews, MB, to Herman and Nancy Winkler.  He leaves to cherish his memory wife Cheryl; his daughters Michelle (Gord) Impey and Connie Barker; stepchildren, Courtney (Dan) Dufault and Adam Richter; grandchildren, Jake and Kate Impey, Cheyenne, Nevaeh, Hailey, and Damian Barker, and Henry and Margaux Dufault; sisters, Bonnie Lowen and Janet (Allan) Hlady; three nephews (Jackson, Bradley, and Michael) and two nieces (Heather and Anice).  Marvin was predeceased by his then wife, Cyndy, in 2009.

Marvin grew up free as a bird in Tyndall, MB.   He often said he could not have had better parents; Herman (a farmer) and Nancy (a school teacher).

After high school in Beausejour, MB, Marvin worked for a year with the Manitoba Highways Department as a surveyor.  Upon graduating as a Civil Technologist from Red River College, he worked for a year with Manitoba Hydro as a concrete inspector at the Kelsey Generating Station.  Marvin then went on to a 35-year career with the City of Winnipeg Engineering Department.

Marvin was a proud, hardworking man with a great sense of humour who enjoyed practical jokes.  Times and activities that Marvin treasured include operating diesel tractors on his father’s farm; curling and playing hockey; spending teenage summers at his uncle’s home on Puget Sound in Washington State; swimming in the Tyndall limestone quarries; chainsaw work in the bush; beach days with his daughters; family gatherings; retirement vacations in Cuba, Jamaica, and Mexico; and muscle cars and pickup trucks.  Marvin was a proud member of the Masons at the Ophir Lodge.

Marvin especially loved Harley-Davidsons – specifically FLH touring bikes.  He enjoyed 30 consecutive fun-runs to the Sturgis Black Hills Rally, and several extensive bike trips into the USA.  In his own words, “anyone looking for Marvin – check the clouds; he is ‘In the Wind’ on his Harley”.

Cremation has taken place and Marvin will be laid to rest with his family at the Tyndall Cemetery.  As per Marvin’s wishes, no service will be held.  Donations are gratefully accepted to CancerCare Manitoba.
