Mary Starodub (nee Timo)
December 4, 1928 – October 11, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Starodub on October 11, 2020.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Edward, brother John, and parents Rosalia and Stefan. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Robert (Linda) and Ronald (Ardine) and granddaughters, Stephanie, Janine and Lauren; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Mary was a lifelong resident of East Selkirk. In her early years, she worked at Ashdown warehouse where Mary met Ed. They married September 10, 1949 and celebrated 64 years together prior to his passing in 2013.
She was a devoted mom to her sons and took an active interest in all their various activities.
Mary loved working at Parker’s Pharmacy for many years. After retirement, Ed and Mary enjoyed a memorable holiday with Philip and Helen in Hawaii and numerous trips to Las Vegas with friends and family.
Mary was a passionate football, baseball and hockey fan. She enjoyed Selkirk Steelers and Winnipeg Jets games and was never too shy to correct a referee’s missed call. On her 90th birthday, Mary attended her first Jets 2.0 game with the highlight being the ovation she received from the crowd while appearing on the jumbotron.
Mary cherished her time with family and her greatest joy was preparing Sunday meals after church. Her granddaughters meant the world to her and she was so proud of all their accomplishments.
As a devout Catholic, Mary attended church every Sunday. She was grounded in her faith in God, prayed her rosary and was prepared when God called her to Him. If one word could be used to describe Mary, it would be “Love”. She had an unending capacity to love. We will so dearly miss her.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Anthony Herd, Dr. Habtu Demsas and the many staff and care providers at Selkirk Regional Health Centre palliative care.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private memorial service will be held on Friday October 23rd in the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in East Selkirk.
Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
