Mildred Annette Jelfs (nee Thompson)
It is with great sadness, the family of Annette conveys her peaceful passing on January 11, 2025.
Annette was also known as Mom, Grandma, Aunt Nette and Auntie Annette to family.
She will be dearly missed by her husband Norm/Cam Jelfs; her children Chris (Dayna Hammond) and Pam Francis; her grandchildren Emma and Noah; sisters-in-law Donna Thompson, Nora Gerrand, and Hazel Jelfs; brother-in-law Bob Jelfs; special niece Allison Boulton and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
Annette was predeceased by her parents Bert and Lorine Thompson; her brother Robert Thompson and son-in-law Dave Francis.
Born March 6, 1937, Annette spent her early years on the family farm near Binscarth, MB until her move to Winnipeg to seek employment and adventure. She worked at the British Assurance Company in the mail room and later at “the Hydro” as the secretary to the manager of the Power Commission. During this time, she lived with Auntie Nell and Uncle Russell, Cousin Beatrice and good friend Jesse Woodhouse.
She first met Norm when he began working for the bank in Binscarth. After numerous assignments for Norm, they married in Winnipeg in 1960. They moved to Brandon shortly after, then to Selkirk in 1971 where they remained.
Annette stayed home to raise Chris and Pam and manage the household, later working part time for the Selkirk Chamber of Commerce. She and Norm enjoyed wintering in Florida, Arizona, and Hawaii in retirement where they made many great and lasting friendships.
Annette was a devoted member of the Selkirk United Church, where she sang in the choir and contributed to many luncheons, bake sales and dinner events. She was also a member of PEO, Chapter “A” Selkirk, taking great pride in their work and enjoying the company of many friends.
Special thanks to the caring staff on Medical Unit 1 at SRHC, who made Mom’s last days comfortable.
